Buzz Feiten Tuning System

Until now, the guitar, bass, banjo, mandolin, etc. are not instruments that can play perfectly in tune up and down the neck. This is because most stringed instruments are tuned using equal temperament.  With standard tuning and intonation, even when using a very accurate tuner, some notes and chords don't sound in tune.

Test it yourself on a guitar:

• Play the bar A chord on the fifth fret.
• Now play the bar D chord on the 5th fret. You should hear the D chord is not in tune.
• Tune an E chord at the first fret so it sounds in tune with itself.  Now play the A and D chords and at least one or two notes are sharp or flat.

Buzz Feiten noticed the piano was always in tune and wanted his guitar to be always in tune.  His experiences with intonation problems led him to make small, but significant change to the guitar nut position & how the guitar is tuned & intonated.  Now his guitar is always in tune.  The result is the Buzz Feiten Tuning System (BFTS).

Use the Buzz Feiten Tuning System and the notes and chords on your guitar will sound in tune in every position.  The better you sound, the better you play.

How it Works

The Buzz Feiten Tuning System solves tuning and intonation problems with 2 simple steps:

1. Installation of the Shelf Nut

The exclusive Buzz Feiten Tuning System (BFTS) Shelf Nut moves the strings closer to the first fret according to the Patented Formula. This eliminates sharp notes at the first three frets.

Top View : Each Shelf Nut is precision machined from high quality bone for superb tonal response. The Lightning Bolt Logo is machined into the top of each Shelf Nut for authenticity.

Side View : The strings are moved closer to the first fret a precise distance based on the scale length, fret width and string gauge of your guitar. The slight overhang of our nut (the 'Shelf') does this without altering your guitar in any way. So it's even fine for vintage guitars.

2. Intonation

Your guitar's bridge is adjusted according to the Patented Pitch Offsets, creating balanced intonation over the entire fingerboard - every fret - every string.
